Lady Titans Tennis Defeats Lady Warriors

Bruning, Hudson Lead Way in Singles for Lady Titans

North Oconee girls' tennis picked up a key region win at OCHS Thursday, to claim their first 8-AAA regular season title with a 4-1 win over the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Warrior-Lady Titan match for the girls was headlined at the top two singles positions. The Lady Warriors have relied heavily in 2013 on their top two singles players,  Jordan England and Katy Kane. However, the Lady Warriors may not have faced a talented duo at the top two singles spots at the same time like the Lady Titans' highly talented seniors, Rebecca Bruning and the always dependable Amber Hudson. Bruning and Hudson arrived with a combined season record of 20-2. (Bruning 9-1, Hudson 11-1). Like last year, the Bruning - Hudson singles duo proved be more than Oconee had bargained for, as both won to help North Oconee take a relatively easy 4-1 region win. Bruning is now 10-1, Hudson 12-1 for the season.

The Lady Warriors were held to only 7 games combined at the top three singles spots. Rebecca Bruning fought off a flu bug to defeat Jordan England 6-1, 6-0 at #1 singles. Amber Huidson also won on court 2, over the Lady Warriors' talented Katy Kane 6-3, 6-3, in a match that was closer than the score indicated. Mary Campbell Cobb defeated Erin Horsley at 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, The Lady Titan #1 combo of Lana Livesay and Abby Bruning defeated Grace Mitchell and Macy Bird 6-2, 6-1, while the Lady Warriors' point came at #2 doubles, where Megan Morris and Ivy Do won over Cammi Schaeffer and Megan Reid, 6-3, 6-2.

The Lady Titans region record moves to a perfect 6-0, 12-1 overall. OCHS is now 3-2 in region, 7-7 overall.

OCHS and NOHS both hit the road again Tuesday, with OCHS at Elbert County, while NOHS travels to Franklin County. Both matches are scheduled for 4:30pm.
