Funeral Arrangements Announced for Slain ACCPD Officer

Athens-Clarke County Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian, 34, will be laid to rest on Sunday, March 27 at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has announced funeral arrangements for Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian, who was on March 22.  He had been employed with the police department since December 2002.

Visitation will start at 4 p.m. and will continue as long as necessary to accommodate visitors on Saturday, March 26 at Bernstein Funeral Home on 3195 Atlanta Hwy in Athens.

The funeral service will be on Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Classic Center located at 300 N Thomas St in Athens.  The service is expected to last approximately one hour.  

The procession will travel west on Broad Street to Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655   Atlanta Hwy.  Citizens are asked to line the roadway from downtown to the cemetery in Christian's honor.

He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, his parents, and one brother.

Athens First Bank will serve as the depository for a memorial fund for SPO Elmer "Buddy" Christian. Donations may be dropped off at any branch of Athens First Bank. They may also be mailed to Athens First Bank, 150 West Hancock Ave, Athens GA 30601, with a notation that it is for this fund.

He is dearly missed glad to have had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful man! An extremely pleasant example of a human being and very good police officer. Its very sad he died protecting innocent citizens and nobody could protect him from the likes of Jamie Hood! R.I.P. Officer Christian!!
