Funds Raised from Rotary Barbecue Will Benefit Many

Seven hundred fifty dinners were prepared for the Oconee Rotary Club's 28th annual BBQ chicken fundraiser held at Harris Shoals Park in Watkinsville on May 5.

The Oconee Rotary Club recently held its 28th annual BBQ chicken fundraiser where club members prepared some 750 dinners, complete with a half chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, chips, pickle and bread.  Project director James Deaton said the club expects to raise more than $6,000 from the highly-anticipated yearly event.  The money raised goes toward a host of funding opportunities that Oconee Rotary supports.  They include funding local student scholarships, The Salvation Army, Oconee Relay for Life, Secret Santa, OCAF, Rotary International’s polio eradication efforts, handicap ramp construction, Oconee County 4-H and FFA projects, American Red Cross, Student of the Semester recognition programs, 3rd grade dictionary distribution, Boy and Girl Scout clubs, Oconee Wee Read, ESP, and other community needs as they arise.  The club thanks donations by: Golden Pantry, Zaxby’s, Springhill Suites, Barberitos, Big Easy, AJ’s, Strickland’s, Rick Waller Insurance Agency, Georgia Square Collision, and the Georgian Press.

Imagine that! A mockery of a representative calling an issue a mockery! How much of his outrageousRead More salary and benefit package is he willing to give up? And what he calls fact is seriously distorted information. Good leaders don't run and hide from an issue and then blame others for their shortcomings... I realize good leaders are hard to find.... but, why do we continue to tolerate mediocrity? A vacant seat would be just as effective as this congressman... actually, as I think about it, probably more effective.
