Fourth of July Travel: Are You One of the 40.8 Million Americans Expected to Travel at Least 50 Miles?

The Independence Day holiday travel period is Wednesday, July 3, to Sunday, July 7.

The number of Americans expected to travel at least 50 miles from home this Fourth of July has decreased by .8 percent, from 41.1 million in 2012 to 40.8 this year.

The decrease is due to a shorter holiday period, according to AAA Travel — a five-day holiday period instead of six days in 2012.

“This projection is due to the calendar effect of one fewer day in the holiday period and economic growth that is not robust enough to offset the impact of the sequester and the effect of the end of the payroll tax cut on American families," AAA President and CEO Robert L. Darbelnet said in a news release.

The Independence Day holiday travel period is Wednesday, July 3, to Sunday, July 7.
