Georgia Distracted Driving Conference

Texting and Driving has to stop.  With the longest eyes off the road time of all distracted driving activities, text messaging while driving makes a crash 23% times more likely.  In 2011 at least 23% of auto collisions involved cell phones. It has to stop.  The best way to make it stop is by education.

In conjunction with the National Organization of Youth Safety (NOYS) there will be a Georgia Distracted Driving Conference in Athens, Georgia on September 14 at The Classic Center.   From 10am to 4pm youth from all over Georgia will gather for a day of eye opening presentations on the dangers of the road as well as creative ways to get youth involved in ending fatalities on the road.

Conference organizers Hannah Walters and John Isaac Smith, who attended a national NOYS conference last fall are taking what they learned in Washington DC and will share with the youth of Georgia so that they can in turn hold similar conferences in their communities.

“Texting and driving today is like seat belt usage of the sixties. Nobody buckled up until education was increased. People of all ages need to understand that texting and driving kills,” Walters says. The two are very passionate about reaching their high goals. “We want to reduce and ultimately eliminate fatalities caused by distracted driving. We need zero,” Smith demands. The pair believes this conference is the next step in getting to no fatal crashes caused by distractions on the road.

The conference is free to attendees that to the generous sponsorships from generous local business.  This conference is open to all high school students who live in Georgia.  Applications are available at
