New Eco-Friendly Home of Classic City Orthodontics a 'Landmark' in Oconee County, Orthodontist Says

Dr. Tradd Harter recently celebrated the opening of his office on Jamestown Boulevard with a carnival for patients.

Classic City Orthodontics has moved into its new LEED-certified office building on the corner of Hog Mountain Road and Jamestown Boulevard.

The energy-efficient facility, which replaces the office on Park Drive, gives the practice the space it needs to care for its ever-growing patient base, Dr. Tradd Harter said.

Matlack-Van Every Design, an orthodontic design firm, AllPhase Medical, a local construction firm that specializes in the development and construction of medical practices and health care facilities, and local architect Mark Lytle with Unified Design worked on the project, which broke ground in December 2011.

The structure features a wall of windows designed to reflect heat and light, and overhangs that prevent direct sunlight from shining into the glass in order to keep the core temperature of the building even throughout the day, he explained.

Rain chains route water from the gutters into underground cisterns where it's collected and funneled to an irrigation system.

"Therefore we are not as dependent on the city water system to irrigate landscaping," Harter said.

A stone wall that encases the front of the building provides privacy for patients and serves as a barrier from the busy intersection.

Inside patients are greeted with an open reception area, a more private treatment bay, a children’s play area, and an entertainment space including a movie theater and computer nook.

"We feel like we've achieved our goal in providing a fun place to come," he said.

To celebrate the grand opening, Dr. Harter and his staff threw a carnival-themed party for patients on May 17, complete with face painting, cotton candy, bouncy houses, and a juggler on stilts.
