Details: Throughout the week at RFB&D’s Athens recording studio, hundreds of volunteer readers will put in extra hours at the microphone to transform printed textbooks into easy-to-navigate audio books – enabling students with reading disabilities to have equal opportunities to learn and enjoy educational success. The public and media are welcome to visit, especially on March 3, which is also beloved author Dr. Seuss’s birthday! Contact the studio at gaunit@rfbd.org or call our studio staff at 706-549-1313.

On Saturday, March 5th, RFB&D will also participate in UGA’s Day of Service in cooperation with Volunteer UGA. Interested UGA students, staff and faculty are welcome to contact the studio to schedule an introduction to recording audio textbooks from 10:00am to 12:00pm or 1:00pm-3:00pm.

Guest readers include Georgia’s First Lady Sandra Deal, Paul Kurtz, UGA law professor; Jerry Hutchins, minister from Timothy Baptist; Dr. John Jackson, Oconee School System superintendent; Philip Lanoue, Clarke County School System superintendent; Don McKenna, St. Mary’s Hospital CEO; Loran Smith, Georgia Athletics radio personality; Sherri Goggin, Mrs. Georgia and author/columnist and Heidi Davidson, former Mayor.

The Georgia volunteers will join thousands more across the U.S. in the Record-A-Thon campaign to raise funds, record books, and boost public awareness about RFB&D and people with learning differences. A national nonprofit offering the largest audio textbook library in the world, RFB&D provides life-changing access to the printed word for over 300,000 students and veterans with visual impairments or learning disabilities like dyslexia.
