Woman Accused of Cutting Boyfriend During Argument About Facebook

A 20-year-old Athens woman was arrested Thursday. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies say an argument over an issue on Facebook became physical Thursday at an Elms Street residence.

A woman called 911 just after 4 p.m. to report that her boyfriend had struck her, according to an incident report.  She told responding deputies that the man had hit her in the back of the head and that the two tussled through the house, landing on a table and breaking some glassware items, the deputy wrote in the report. Both the woman and man told deputies the argument started over something on Facebook.

The man said his girlfriend "came at" him, so he grabbed her wrists to control her, according to the report.

Deputies noticed the man's left hand was bleeding and that it appeared he had a puncture wound on his left arm.  When asked about the injuries, the man told deputies the woman had grabbed a knife and swung it at him, according to the report.  He said he was able to break away from her and that she threw the knife somewhere in the residence. Medical staff treated him at the scene.

The woman reportedly told deputies she wasn't trying to harm her boyfriend and that she felt bad about it.

Antavia Garneshia Roach, 20, of Athens, was charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the third degree because children were present at the time of the incident, according to the report. As of Monday afternoon, she remained at the Oconee County Jail.
