Runner from Watkinsville Listed as Having Finished Boston Marathon

Boston Police said an explosion occurred about 2:50 p.m. near the race's finish line.

The Boston Globe is now reporting that at least three people died and nearly 150 were injured after two explosions occurred about 2:50 p.m. Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. 

According to the Boston Marathon's website, one runner in this year's race listed Watkinsville as his hometown: Tom H Porter III.  No entrants were listed from Bishop, Bogart, North High Shoals or Farmington, but the Athens-Banner Herald reports at least nine Athens runners were registered for the race. Video of the incident shows the explosion knocking runners and bystanders to the ground following the blast.

The Boston Marathon released a statement about  4 p.m. that read, "There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened."
