A 16-year-old girl was flown to Grady Hospital on Wednesday after the black Toyota Camry she was driving left the highway and struck a tree on Butterworth Road in Canton.

The girl, who has not been identified, is in critical condition with a possible broken shoulder and head injuries.

– East Atlanta Patch

Atlanta police arrested a 29-year-old man in Ormewood Park early Saturday morning that they said was stealing from a neighborhood church.

A resident called police at about 12:40 a.m. after he saw Akio Stephens allegedly break into the Bible Christian Ministry Church. When police arrived, they found Stephens — whose previous arrests include charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft and battery, among others — in one of the church offices.

Stephens, police said, had taken items from an office desk, including camera equipment and stacked them on the floor to take with him.

 

– Woodstock Patch

Rigoberto Lara Hernandez, 34, drowned in Lake Allatoona Sunday afternoon.

Hernandez went swimming following a family picnic and was later seen floating in the water.

He was transported to Kennestone Hospital and later pronounced dead.
