Regional Round: Infant Seriously Injured in Shaking Incident, Charges in Fatal Wreck, and Emory Patient Records Reported Missing

A 2-month-old Canton girl is in critical condition at  after her father allegedly shook her.

"The baby has not even been able to have a skeletal exam because the baby is in such fragile, critical condition," said Sgt. Stacy Bailey, spokeswoman for the .

The infant's father, 24-year-old Juander Escobar-Cobon, is at the  on felony charges of aggravated battery and cruelty to children in the first degree. An illegal immigrant who was deported as recently as December, he is also being held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

-- Loganville-Grayson Patch 

Jonathan Blanton Bagwell, 28, of Loganville, has been charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving following a wreck last week that killed a Sugar Hill man.

According to Gwinnett County jail records, Jonathan Blanton Bagwell, 28, of Loganville, was arrested Tuesday and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving. He was released at 7 p.m. Wednesday on $16,900 bond.

in Lawrenceville. Kenneth Hayden, 22, of Sugar Hill died in the accident.

At the time officials said alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor but there were questions with regard to speed and right of way. They called for any witnesses to the accident to come forward but it is unclear at this time what prompted the arrest.

Medical records for 315,000 patients containing over 220,000 Social Security numbers are missing from Emory Healthcare.

In a notice posted April 18, Emory Healthcare advised that 10 backup disc containing information on surgical patients treated between September 1990 and April 2007 are missing. According to Emory Healthcare, "It is important to note that there was no actual or attempted breach or 'hacking in' of Emory's electronic medical records or other systems."

The 315,000 patients affected by the data loss were treated at Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown (formerly known as Emory Crawford Long Hospital) and The Emory Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center. Patients treated at other Emory Healthcare facilities or patients treated after April 2007 are not affected.  

Emory Healthcare has advised it will pay for access to identity protection services, including credit monitoring, for all affected patients. The hospital system is mailing letters to affected patients with details about the incident and what steps patients can take to protect themselves.
