Downed Tree Knocks Out Power for Thousands of Oconee Walton EMC Customers

Walton EMC was working Sunday evening to restore power to affected members.

Update: By midnight, power had been restored to all but five meters in Oconee County, according to Walton EMC's website.

Update 8:45 p.m. :

Slightly more than 2,000 Oconee County meters were reportedly experiencing power outages Sunday, according to , and the company was working to restore service.

The outages were caused when a large tree fell and took out three sections of power line on McRee Gin Road, also causing a grass fire, Walton EMC Communications Coordinator Greg Brooks said in an email.
