Police and Fire:

The Oconee County Sheriff revealed on Monday new details into a shooting case where a man shot his brother-in-law.  Witnesses told investigators Brian Bowden, 31, may have acted in self-defense when he shot 32-year-old James Eric Hester in the 1100 block of Watson Springs Road Sunday evening. Hester had threatened Bowden and tried to stab him with a knife, before the shooting took place, Bowden and witnesses said. Hester was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center, and hasn't been well enough to be questioned by local authorities.

Authorities investigated a bomb threat in a parking lot near on Monroe Highway on Tuesday after a man told police he had an explosive device in his truck. There was no apparent threat, and police said the man appeared confused. A family member later took the man to a hospital for an evaluation, according to the Oconee County Sheriff.
