Authorities say the 73-year-old victim is in the intensive care unit at Athens Regional Medical Center after being struck repeatedly with a blunt object while she was in bed at her Peacock Drive home Thursday night.

The 73-year-old Oconee County woman who was beaten in her home late Thursday night is improving and no longer in intensive care, according to Sheriff Scott Berry.

The Oconee County, Ga., deputy and suspect struggled near a CSX railroad track. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies searched a trailer in Pinewood Estates South mobile home park Friday and seized methamphetamine, marijuana, digital scales, nearly $1,500 and a shotgun.



Assistant Superintendent of Financial Operations Randy Morrison says the fiscal year 2013 budget should be balanced through a combination of raising revenue and cutting expenses.
