Oconee Today -- Sept. 11

Today marks the somber 11th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

Weather: Plenty of sunshine and high temperatures in the low 80s are in the Weather Channel forecast for today. Lows overnight are expected to dip into the upper 50s.

Top things to know:

  • To mark the anniversary of September 11th, consider volunteering for the Day of Service and Remembrance.  Locally, HandsOn Northeast Georgia has organized four projects.  .
  • Every Tuesday the of Oconee County meets at 7 a.m. in the Watkinsville Community Center for a continental breakfast and presentation. Guests are welcome to attend at a cost of $5 per person.
  • All are invited to play duplicate bridge at the Watkinsville Community Center every Tuesday at 1 p.m.  Cost is $4.  The group also meets on Fridays.
  • Learn about "Keeping Fresh Garden Flavor All Year Long" at a canning workshop at the State Botanical Garden.  The second class in the three-part series takes place from 4:30-6 p.m. in Classroom 2 of the Visitors Center.  Cost per class is $18 for non-members or $15 for members.
