Oconee Today -- May 6

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia is expected to make an announcement about the new chancellor following a special called telephone conference this morning. See what else there is to know.

1. The work week comes to a close with sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures, as highs will be in the mid 70s.  Expect clear skies this evening with the low around 50, the National Weather Service predicts.

2. A special event takes place at the from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m..  It is a Patio Party to celebrate "Older Americans Month."

3. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia meets in a special called meeting that will be conducted as an Executive Session through a telephone conference.  It will start at 10 a.m.  An Open Session and press conference will follow at the Board of Regents’ Offices in Atlanta. The board is expected to take action on the appointment of the new chancellor.  Two weeks ago, Hank Huckaby was named as the only for the position.

4. The University of Georgia Libraries sponsors the Gone With the Wind 75th Anniversary Celebration exhibition.  The opening reception is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library.  Tickets are $35.

5. It's the first weekend of the month, which means the streets of downtown Watkinsville will be bustling with event-goers. From 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. there will be free activities for the entire family.
