Oconee Today -- June 30

The Georgia House District 113 candidates meet in a debate and Extreme Makeover holds a pep rally in northeast Georgia today. Find out more about these events and other things to know.

1. Expect plenty of sunshine and hot temperatures today. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s.  The predicts clear skies this evening with lows in the upper 60s.

2. Make pipe cleaner and tissue paper flowers! at the Georgia Square Mall offers the free project for kids 5 and older.  There are two sessions; one begins at 10:30 a.m. and the second starts at 6:30 p.m.

3. Give blood at an American Red Cross drive at Athens Regional Medical Center from 7:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. The drive will be collecting blood and double red cell donations .

4. Volunteers are needed to help build a home for a deserving northeast Georgia family through .  A pep rally for fans and prospective volunteers takes place at the Morgan County High School gym at 7 p.m.  Vince Dooley will emcee the rally and the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders will perform, according to a news release. The chosen family will be notified on July 10, when the week-long build will begin.

5. House District 113 candidates Democrat and Republican face off in a political debate at 7 p.m. at the Oconee County Civic Center.  Citizens may submit questions to moderator Tim Bryant between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. There will be time to mingle with the candidates from 6:30 p.m. until the start of the debate.  For more details, click .
