Oconee Today -- Feb. 24

Spring sports registration, "The Journey" art exhibit, and the UGA observatory are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

Weather: Scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day are expected to bring between a quarter and half of an inch of new rainfall.  Highs will be in the mid 60s, according to the National Weather Service, with gusty winds up to 30 mph.

Top things to know:

  • Today is the final day to register for spring sports and programs offered by the Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department.  .
  • If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, today is the last opportunity to view "The Journey," an exhibit in celebration of Black History Month, on display at the . The gallery is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
  • If the evening sky is clear, consider visiting UGA's Physics Building for an Observatory Open House.  From 7:30-9 p.m., the public will have the opportunity to look through the observatory's 24-inch telescope for a chance to see the crescent moon, Jupiter and Venus.
