The third week in February starts out sunny with high temperatures in the upper 50s.

Weather: Sunshine sweeps in to replace the rainy weekend days.  The Weather Channel predicts sunny skies and highs in the upper 50s. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 30s.

Top things to know:

  • The federal government recongizes Georgia Washington's birthday on the third Monday of February, but is there an official recognition of "Presidents' Day"? Athens Patch takes a look at some misconceptions about the holiday.
  • Teachers and students of Oconee County Schools are out of class for the holiday.  The school board, however, is scheduled to meet at 11:30 a.m. Mark Channell, assistant superintendent for operations and student services, will give a bid report to the Board concerning the manager/general contractor-at-risk for the North Oconee High School ESPLOST project.  The Board will also meet at 1 p.m. in executive session for a second round of interviews for the next superintendent.
  • School may be out, but the Oconee County Library is open and hosting "Movie Monday" at 11 a.m.  All kids are invited to watch a film on the big screen.
  • The GOGOs -- a free networking group for women-- meets on the third Monday of every month.  Tonight at 5:30 they will meet at Chops and Hops.  All are welcome.
