A pottery exhibition, Gulf oil spill lecture and the first North Oconee home football game of the season are among the things to know about happening in and around Oconee today.

Weather:  Sunny skies are in the forecast with a high temperature approaching in the upper 90s. Expect clear skies with lows tonight in the low 70s.

Top Things to Know About:

  • The opening reception and preview sale for the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation's ninth-annual will be held Friday from 6 p.m. to 9p.m. at 34 School Street in Watkinsville. 
  • The Georgia Law Review holds the symposium: "Civil Rights or Civl Wants?" at Dean Rusk Hall on the University of Georgia campus from 8 a.m.. to 4 p.m. Friday. The event includes a panel discussion exploring such topics as immigration, international civil rights, education and privacy.
  • University of Georgia Professor Samantha Joye will discuss her ongoing research of the 2010 BP oil spill today from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the lecture: "Gas and Oil Dymanics in the Gulf of Mexico, Before, During and After the Macondo Blowout," in the Geography Building at the University of Georgia, Room 200C at 210 Field Street.
  • North Oconee High will host its first home varsity football game of the season against Arabia Mountain at 7:30 p.m.
