Oconee County's 5 Percent Unemployment Rate Remains Lowest in State

In the Northeast Georgia region, rates have declined.

At 5.0 percent in March 2013, Oconee County's unemployment rate continues to be the lowest in the state.

The rate was unchained from a revised 5.0 percent in February. Out of the county's labor force of 19,916, 1,003 were jobless last month.

Hancock and Chattahoochee counties tied for the highest unemployment rate in March at 17.1 percent.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced that the Northeast Georgia region’s unemployment rate declined four-tenths of a percentage point from 7.8 percent in February to 7.4 percent in March. The rate for the region was 8.5 percent in March a year ago.

The regional rate declined as a result of fewer new layoffs, according to a news release.

The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was 8.4 percent, down from 8.6 percent in February. The rate was 9.1 percent in March a year ago.
