Oconee County Under Flash Flood Warning

The National Weather Service says the warning is in effect until 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 18.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Oconee and surrounding counties that is in effect through 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 18. The warning covers southeastern Barrow, northeastern Walton and all of Clarke County.

"Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams...as well as highways and underpasses," the warning states. "Additionally...country roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks...streams and other low lying areas are subject to flooding."

According to an alert from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office sent around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Main Street in Watkinsville is closed between School Street and Simonton Bridge Road due to flooding.

"Please do not cross standing water in the roadway," the alert states.

The Sheriff's Office added that there are multiple reports of ponding on state and county roads all over Oconee County.Β
