Nickel-sized Hail a Threat

The National Weather Service is warning Oconee, Wilkes, Greene, and Oglethorpe counties that hail and high winds are associated with a line of severe thunderstorms hitting the area.

Severe thunderstorms may produce nickel-sized hail, according to National Weather Service.  Oconee, Wilkes, Oglethorpe, and Greene counties are under a special weather statement in effect until 8:45 p.m. that also says current storms may produce 45 mph winds.

Oconee and 28 other north Georgia counties are included in a severe thunderstorm watch until 12 a.m.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office reminds you that if you lose power, do not call 911.  Contact the power companies.
