Herman C. Michael Park 'Sparked' by Sprite

The park is one of seven across the nation that won a $35,000 grant to use toward refurbishments.

has scored a $35,000 grant to spend on new rims, backboards, court resurfacing, lights and other similar refurbishments to the basketball courts.

The Oconee County park was one of seven grand prize winners of the Sprite Spark Parks Project competition held online at Sprite.com and Facebook.com/Sprite, according to a news release.

"Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word and voted for us!" is the message posted on the Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department's website.

Fourteen additional parks won $20,000 grants, including N. H. Scott Recreation Center in Decatur.
