The roadway opened to motorists on March 1, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

It's been more than a year and a half since the Georgia Department of Transportation awarded a bid for the construction of the Oconee Connector Extension, which Oconee County Observations describes as a loop "from SR 316 at the current intersection of the Connector north and then back to Epps Bridge Parkway between the _ and _."

Now, , the $13.6 million project is complete and open to motorists, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

The roadway is expected to lessen traffic congestion while providing access to a stretch land ripe for development, the article notes. Developer Frank Bishop may begin construction of a movie theater and shopping mall as earlier as this spring, according to the newspaper.
