Flood Warning for Oconee, North Georgia

The Oconee River may flood as a result of heavy rainfall later today, the National Weather Service warned.

The threat of heavy rainfall prompted the National Weather Service in Peachtree City to issue a flood warning for Oconee, Clarke and Greene Counties.

According to the warning, the Oconee River near Penfield is forecasted to rise above flood stage by Thursday afternoon, and continue rising through Friday. By Saturday, the river levels should recede.Β 

Minor flooding may occur in the surrounding areas of fields, pastures, and woodlands.

Suwanne Creek by Suwanne, Big Creek near Alpharetta, and Coahulla Creek close to Dalton are also at risk for minor flooding, the weather advisory noted.
