Deputies Arrest Watkinsville Man on Charge of Cocaine Possession

The 36 year old also faces a charge of obstruction and additional charges are pending in the case. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

A Watkinsville man is behind bars in Oconee County, facing charges of cocaine possession and obstruction of law enforcement.

According to an incident report, deputies visited a trailer in the 1100 block of Moreland Drive around 4 p.m. Friday to serve the 36 year old with a temporary protective order (TPO).  The TPO stemmed from a domestic incident the night before at the same address, but details about Thursday's incident weren't yet available as of Monday afternoon.

When deputies arrived Friday, a woman told them the man they were looking for had run from the back yard after he'd seen the patrol car pull up. Patrol units shortly afterward detained the man in the area of US Highway 441 and Lampkin Branch Drive.

The man allegedly told deputies he hadn't been fleeing; he'd been on his way to the store.  In the man's pants' pockets were two cell phones, a wad of cash and a wallet containing more cash, according the deputy's report, totaling $1,366.  A white substance was also found in the man's coat, the deputy noted.

Without having been asked, the man claimed he'd earned the cash by working two jobs, according to the report.  But then the man stated the money belonged to his wife and that the coat belonged to another relative.  The woman, however, identified the coat as belonging to the man and said the man didn't have any steady job; he only cut hair occasionally, according to the deputy's report.

William Curtis Bradford was arrested on charges of obstruction of law enforcement and possession of cocaine.

During Thursday night's domestic incident, deputies had removed a drug-related object from the home, according to the report.

Acting on information obtained from another witness, investigators Friday obtained and issued a search warrant at the trailer.  They say they seized a shoe box containing numerous bags of a green leafy substance and a white substance that had been hidden in a trash bag inside of a trashcan outside and behind the trailer. Also inside the box were digital scales, plastic bags and a razor blade that tested positive for cocaine, they said.

Additional charges are pending against Bradford, according to the report.
