Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday

Don't forget to switch clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. on Nov. 6.

On Nov. 6 at 2 a.m., we officially switch off Daylight Saving Time and revert to Standard Time.

. What used to begin on the first Sunday in April and end the last Sunday in October has slowly been extended to make for a longer period of daylight saving each year.

Georgia's Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens reminds everyone to use the occasion to check smoke detector batteries.

"Every year in Georgia there are fire fatalities in homes that didn’t have smoke alarms, or where the alarms did not function because of dead batteries," Hudgens said in a released statement. "If you do not have a smoke alarm, you need to get one. If you have a smoke alarm, make sure it is in working order. Changing the battery at least once every year and cleaning dust from the device are easy ways to ensure continued protection of your family and your property. Having a working smoke alarm doubles the chances you will survive a fire in your home.”

It is particularly important in light of the upcoming holiday season. Christmas tree lights and holiday candles are added risks for house fires during the Christmas season.

Don’t forget! Saturday night before you turn in, set your clocks back one hour– and check the batteries on your smoke detector.

How does the time change affect you? Does it take a couple of days for you to feel adjusted?
