Broun Says He'll Run in 2012

Even though districts maps are set to change, U.S. Rep. Paul Broun announced Wednesday he plans to run for District 10 again.

U.S. Congressman Paul Broun plans to run for re-election in the newly redrawn 10th Congressional District in 2012, he announced Wednesday in a press release.

In the new 10th District map, a northern portion of Clarke County falls into the newly established 9th Congressional Distirct. In the new map, Broun picks up counties east of metro Atlanta and Middle Georgia. The map still retains all of Oconee County.

(Athens, GA)  U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement announcing that he will run for reelection in the newly drawn 10th Congressional District of Georgia:

"Since 2007, it has been my highest honor to serve the people of the 10th Congressional District as their U.S. Representative.  I am working for policies that allow the private sector of our economy to grow and to create more jobs, that reduce federal spending, that restore a constitutionally-limited federal government as our Founders intended, and that protect freedom.

"I knew that Georgia's dramatic population growth would require the General Assembly to create an additional congressional district and that the boundaries of the 10th District would change.  While I very much regret losing some areas of the district, I am pleased to see that it will retain a portion of the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area), the University of Georgia, the Lake Oconee region, and other vibrant communities that I have been privileged to serve.   I am enthusiastic about meeting the people and officials of the new communities that the General Assembly included in our newly drawn District."
