Blog Roundup: Budget Hearings, Oconee County Schools Alumni Banquet, Watkinsville Council Meeting

Oconee bloggers offer perspective on goings-on in the county.

  • Oconee County Observations blogger Lee Becker was busy keeping up with budget hearings held by the Oconee County Commissioners last week.  He reports that the commissioners begin "the difficult task of matching $21 million in budget requests for the General Fund with approximately $18.7 million in projected revenue." He also blogs about a proposed water and sewer rate hike.  A public hearing on the final budget will be held on May 31.
  • In a video, Becker interviews the youngest of the vendors on the opening day of the eighth season of the . Six-year-old Lexi is selling homemade birdhouses this year, along with cut flowers and lemonade, he says.
  • The Oconee County High Schools Annual Alumni Banquet has been set for June 25, according to Wendell Dawson.  On his Another Voice from Oconee County blog, Dawson says the event will take place at at 5:30 p.m.  The class of 1961 is hosting this year.
  • Oconee County, GA Politics blogger Dan Matthews posts a detailed report of the City of Watkinsville council held on April 13 where 3 business licenses were granted and Police Chief Lee O'Dillon was honored for 25 years of service. There are numerous pictures on the blog in addition to a video of Mayor Joe Walter's report.
