Bites Nearby: Five Guys Burgers & Fries

Each week we'll tell you about a nearby restaurant that serves up delicious food and focuses on eating local.

The story of the success of the franchise can only be topped by the taste of the restaurant’s burgers and fries. From one location in Arlington, VA, in 1986 to over 750 locations today, Five Guys phenomenal growth can be traced back to their dedication to quality.

Five Guys uses only fresh ground beef and their hamburger and hot dog buns are made at specially selected bakeries. The restaurant prides itself on having a trans-fat free menu and uses only peanut oil for cooking.

Customers choose from 15 free toppings to create a burger “their way.”  Five Guys fans know all 15 by heart: mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A.1 Steak Sauce, Bar-B-Q Sauce, and hot sauce. There are over 250,000 possible ways for a customer to order a burger at Five Guys, but the purists need not despair. The plain unadulterated Five Guys burger has been voted Washington Magazine’s “Readers Choice #1 Burger every year since 1999. Cheeseburgers, bacon burgers and bacon cheeseburgers are also available. Hot dog lovers are in luck and can choose from a kosher-style dog, a cheese or bacon dog, and a cheese bacon dog.
