Developer: Epps Bridge Centre a Quality Project to Attract Regional Shopping

The Bishop Company, alongside community and business leaders, officially broke ground Tuesday on the 486,000 square foot shopping mall being built along the Oconee Connector Extension.

The golden shovels were out Tuesday for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future Epps Bridge Centre located on the Oconee Connector Extension.

"This is going to be huge for the region," Oconee County Commission Chairman Melvin Davis said of the development. "When it opens in 2013, I think you'll find shoppers coming from many counties surrounding Oconee."

The shopping mall and state-of-the-art movie theatre will generate special-purpose, local-option sales tax revenue and create jobs, which Davis said will be good for the local economy.

The 486,000 square foot Epps Bridge Centre is Bishop Company's second project in the Athens area. The general contractor, Benning Construction Company, recently built the in Barrow County.
