'Peace to This House' is the Motto of The Laster Law Firm

The practice concentrates on real estate transactions, homeowner associations, and a general civil representation.

There's a new legal practice in the Athens-Oconee area, concentrating on real estate transactions, homeowner associations, and a general civil representation.

, located at 1351 Jennings Mill Road, Suite D2, opened its doors in February and celebrated its membership with the with a ribbon cutting event on March 13.

"This year I think we are at a turning point, and I'm willing to go out and open my own firm," said managing member John Laster. "The industry is in a big state of flux, but there's no time like the present to start a business."

Laster said the firm's mission is expressed through its motto: Peace to this house.

"I'm not about conflict, but I come into a very messy situation and try to offer peace and reconciliation," he said. "That's my pledge, my promise: to bring peace to the situation where there's conflict in an ethical way by applying the law and skills of my trade."

Laster's experience includes conducting residential purchases and refinancings; REO and ORE representation, SBA loans, foreclosures, relocation company and other corporate seller work; and investor transactions.

"I hope that one day we can say there's a leading real estate firm for the state located in Athens," he said.

More about John Laster*

John is a native of Fayette County, Georgia, a 1994 graduate of the University of Georgia law school, a member of the Real Estate section of the Georgia Bar, and the Western Circuit Bar Association. In addition to his involvement with the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, he is involved in many local groups of real estate professionals, including the Athens Area Association of REALTORS, the Athens Area Home Builder's Association, and the Athens Chapter Women's Council of REALTORS. He is admitted to practice before the Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Supreme Court, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

In addition to his education from the University of Georgia law school, Laster is an alumnus of the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. His wife, Kasee, is an administrator at UGA. They have two children in Oconee County schools and are members of Athens First United Methodist Church. John is assisted in the practice by paralegal Aaron Gray, a 2009 graduate of the Terry College of Business.
