After serving three and a half years as president of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, J.R. Whitfield has tendered his resignation, effective Nov. 16, the Chamber announced in a news release Tuesday. Whitfield plans to pursue a new business venture.
Chamber Chairman Mack Guest said he is disappointed to see Whitfield go, but certainly understands the allure of a great opportunity.
“I speak for the executive board, full board and all of the Oconee Chamber members when I say that we wish J.R. all the best,” Guest said in a released statement.
Chamber membership more than doubled to 450 members under Whitfield's leadership, and the Chamber’s three main annual events-- the Fall Festival, Business Expo, and Golf Tournament --have grown to be larger and more profitable each year.
“I have made so many new and lasting friendships through the Chamber." Whitfield said in the release. "This has been a wonderful opportunity."
A search for Whitfield’s successor is to begin immediately.
