Mixed Use Development Coming to the River?

The development is on land that supported a Pure gas station.

If you drive on Macon Highway, you've probably noticed a big pile of dirt behind what used to be a busy gas station, close to a fork of the Oconee River.

The sign says that it's the site of The Falls of Oconee. Here's what the website for Whitworth Land Corporation says:

"Breaking ground soon on this new retail location which will be located directly across the street from brand a 784 bedroom townhome community, Athens Ridge. Formerly the Pure Gas Station.  This will be a very attractive setting once completed, as it is located next to a creek with water falls. Two Outparcels will be available for ground lease at almost .75 AC each.  There is almost any retail business that could work well and even many office type of environments like insurance, medical, law offices, restaurants and shopping."
