Patch: Why a book store?

Debbie:  Reading has always been a passion of mine, so how wonderful is it to "work" at something you love?

Patch: What is your favorite thing about your business?

Debbie:  When I opened the store in 1980, my children were young and I didn't want to take on a full-time teaching job, so I opened a used bookstore in Watkinsville half days...and my children took their naps there.

Patch: What is the most challenging thing about running a business?

Debbie:  Knowing nothing about running a business, I started with a key to the door, opened a checking account, enlisted Jimmy Christopher's accounting aid and went from there.

Patch:  What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a new business in Oconee County?

Debbie: Oconee is a great place to start a new business because the county supports its businesses and the businesses try hard to give back to Oconee.

Books Galore is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Check out the business' blog at booksgalorega.wordpress.com.
