Patch: Why a bakery?

Linda: Because I’m crazy!  Temporary insanity! I always wanted to have a bakery of my own!  I used to decorate cakes for Piggly Wiggly.

Patch: What is your most favorite thing about your business?

Linda:  I love it when people come in and see their cake and are so excited!  They will say, ”It’s just what I wanted!"  And with this business, it’s always about a party, so who wouldn't love that?

Patch:  What is your least favorite thing about your business?

Linda: The hours I put in leave me very little time for my grandchildren. But we try to make the best of it, so they come up here, watch cartoons, come in after school for a brownie.  That’s how they will remember time with their Nana.  They tell their teachers and friends, "My Nana has the best brownies in town!"

Patch: What is the most challenging thing about running a business?

Linda: Finding employees.  Right now I need a cake decorator.   It’s a specific field and it’s hard to find people who are trained.  I don’t make a cake, I build a cake.  So it’s hard to find the right type of help.

Patch: What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting a new business in Oconee County?

Linda: Oconee County is a wonderful place to have a business.  People are very community-minded and want to support local business, and they do!  Oconee supports Oconee!  My location is a perfect spot, too.  Also, I purchase most of the supplies in Oconee County to repay the favor.

Stop by Bee's Knees for a delicious treat Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. or Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.  You can also find the bakery on Facebook.
