Labor Dept.: March Jobless Rate Falls In Athens, Northeast Georgia
Northeast Georgia's unemployment rate declined to 6.2 percent in March.
Unemployment in Northeast Georgia decreased slightly from February to March, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.
The agency said in a press release that the unemployment rate in the region fell from 6.3 percent to 6.2 because fewer workers were laid off last month.
Metro Athens had the area’s lowest jobless rate at 5.1 percent, the same rate for February. The City of Athens saw an increase from 5.3 to 5.4 percent.

The labor department said there were 1,549 new claims for unemployment in Northeast Georgia in March, a drop of 18.9 percent over February.
The jobless rate in Georgia fell last month, too.

Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was 7.0 percent, down from 7.1. The rate was 8.4 percent last year at this time.
