Have You Tried A 'Big One' Pizza?

The 30" pie is made with 5 pounds of dough and 5 pounds of cheese right here in Oconee!

I love pizza! My kids love pizza! Who doesn't love pizza?

I asked the owner of , David Walton, Jr.,  the following questions  about the restaurant's 30" pizzas:

What prompted you to make the biggest pizza in town and how did you decide what size?

David: We watch the television show Man v. Food and they had a pizza challenge with a huge pizza.  The Fox's 30" 'Big One' pizza was the biggest pizza that we could possibly make in our oven, so that helped make the decision easier!  We also wanted to still be able to fit it in a standard door.

How do you make it?

David: It's made with 5 lbs of dough, 5 lbs of cheese, and lots of sauce and toppings!

What makes this more than a story about a really big pizza?

David: We created the Fox's 30" Big One Pizza Challenge.  Three people have 52 minutes to complete the 52 slice pizza.  No one has completed it yet, but it's just a matter of time!  We've been featured on Pizza Today magazine, a national pizza publication, which was a lot of fun.

Who has tried it?

David: We have fundraisers where groups and organizations have their own team challenges.  We've had a group from Athens Regional Hospital/In Their Shoes, The Classic City Rollergirls, UGA and Clarke , and several others raise money through their own charity Big One Challenges. We've also had some famous people attempt the challenge, including former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, former UGA football player Russ Tanner, and founder of www.RememberTheOne.org Kip Dominy.

What's next for the 'Big One' pizza?

David: We would love to have Man v. Food Nation at here in Oconee.  We're also hoping to have someone complete the challenge so that we have a reigning champion.  There have been about 45 total challengers so far with no three-person team champions.  Hopefully the community can rally around the Big One pizza and bring the Man v. Food nation to Fox's!

There are two Fox's Pizza Den locations in Oconee County: 2971 Monroe Highway in Watkinsville and 1850 Epps Bridge Parkway in Athens.
