Bites Nearby: The Taco Stand

Each week we'll tell you about a nearby restaurant that serves up delicious food and focuses on eating local.

The “T-Stand,” as it is affectionately known to its hoards of devoted fans, has offered good Fresh Mex food at affordable prices for over 30 years.

Born in Athens, Ga., in 1977, the has grown its family from one stand to five stands, including the popular Watkinsville location. Babies who teethed on Taco Stand cheese quesadillas now man the cash register and take orders. It is second nature for repeat customers to answer the required questions about food orders before being asked: Your name? Mild, hot or extra hot? For here or to go?

The tortilla chips are made fresh daily and are delicious alone or accompanied by salsa, guacamole or the Taco Stand’s signature cheese dip. Nachos, mini mega nachos and mega nachos make for a good introduction to a meal or can satisfy as a complete meal.
