Bites Nearby: The Big Easy Café

Each week we'll tell you about a nearby restaurant that serves up delicious food.

If you wish to laizzez les bons temps rouler before the Mardi Gras season ends, head on over to for a taste of New Orleans right here in Watkinsville.

The breakfast menu includes offerings for those in a hurry, such as a bagel sandwich or a blackened chix biscuit. For those who wish to linger for a while, try a generous breakfast plate, omelets and French toast.

For lunch, The Big Easy Café is po-boy heaven. You can choose from crawfish, shrimp, oyster, “Big Easy,” “French-fry,” and an assortment of meat po-boys. New Orleans entrees on the menu include crawfish etoufee, jambalaya, red beans and rice and seafood gumbo. Lagniappes include “Bubba’s Choice,” which is a dish of homemade pot roast served with rice and gravy, and the low-country favorite, shrimp and grits.

Also on the menu are homemade soups and salads, a variety of sandwiches and burgers. The “Bayou Burger,” hand patted with Creole seasoning, is a restaurant favorite and is now served daily.

Kids have their own menu and vegetarians can eat well, too.
