Bites Nearby: Scoops

Each week we'll tell you about a nearby restaurant that serves up delicious food and focuses on eating local.

“Sugar and spice and everything nice,” the age-old children’s nursery rhyme, describes perfectly. The Scoops franchise was born in nearby Madison in 2005, and the Watkinsville store is one of seven operations now open in the state. The Scoops philosophy is simple: provide the customer with “the best of the best” of gourmet coffees and sweet treats.

The store features walls of chocolate and candy, homemade fudge, gourmet cakes and ice cream. With so many taste-tempting flavors to mention and just as many mixins to list, Scoops is a paradise for lovers of the cold and creamy delight. If Scoops does not have your favorite flavor, choose your mixins and Scoops will create a flavor just for you on their coldstone. The shop carries a variety of cones, from the cookie cone to the ultimate cone, along with banana splits, malts, shakes, smoothies and sundaes. If you are looking for something lighter. Scoops also carries sherbets, sorbets, frozen yogurt and low-fat, low-sugar ice cream.

At Scoops they understand the art of cake-making. Try a slice in the shop or order one for a special occasion. The cake selection is extensive; among them are the Southern classic red velvet, the N.Y. blackout, the Coca-Cola and the zebra. And they are just as adept at making cheesecakes. Gourmet apples dipped in a variety of chocolate or nuts are another house specialty. Gourmet coffees, specialty blends, teas and hot chocolate round out the menu.
