The kinds of stuff that other people in the country believe the South is just full of. Such as country music memorabilia, racing memorabilia, Civil War items or other “interesting historical” items. Could be, it is.

If your collection fits into any of these categories, pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz might could want to speak at you. And you might make a little money from their visit.

Oops! Better re-phrase that.

Pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz would like to see what you have and, well, pick through it for possible treasures. The two friends restore long-forgotten items to their former glory, according to the show’s website.

The two pickers prefer sheds, basements and attics to antique malls, flea markets and gussied up stores. Right now, says Hannah Smith of the Athens Convention and Vistors Bureau, the reality show isn’t looking for any agricultural or farming items or equipment, so you can keep the harness and traces for another time. They’re also not interested in Depression glass or pottery.

Their website even offers tips for those who think they own something cool.

If you have some potential treasures in the Athens area, or if you know someone else who might, send an email to Smith or call her at 706-816-9376.

Peggy Holcomb, Oconee County tourism director, told The Oconee Enterprise in the Nov. 3 edition American Pickers is not the only TV show interested in possibly coming to the area.

A researcher for the Syfy program "Haunted Collector" is also combing parts of the country for unique items, she told the newspaper.

Call the Oconee County Tourism Department at 706-769-5197 for more information.
