Holiday Pet Food Drive

If your dog or cat isn't going hungry, won't you give someone else's less-fortunate pet the same luxury this holiday season?

The Athens Area Humane Society is hosting a Holiday Pet Food Drive for its Food Bowl program from November 15 to December 15, 2012 to gather large unopened bags of Cat Chow and Dog Chow (or Purina brands) for those who are unable to feed their pets during this holiday season.

Within just one year, The Food Bowl program has grown from serving 10 pets to over 100! Because of your support, we have not had to turn away any applicants for the Food Bowl this year. But we still need your continued support to build our supply of food for this holiday season. We don't want any pets to go hungry over the holidays, or even worse, for any pet owners to have to consider giving up their beloved companions just because they can't afford to buy pet food this month.

Please consider donating to the Holiday Food Drive from November 15 through December 15. We take donations for the Food Bowl year round, but this is a great time to get your family, co-workers, classmates and any other groups together to host your own drive to collect food to make a pets' holiday.

We ask that you follow these food donation guidelines so we can keep our Food Bowl recipients' pets on a similar diet from month to month to reduce stomach upsets. We also ask for large bags of donated food because we distribute the food on a monthly basis and this limits our staff's valuable time in sorting through dozens of small bags of different brands of food to feed over 100 animals. It also helps with storing the food in our limited storage facility.

Let's join together NOW and help these dogs and cats! We can all help our Food Bowl pets and their families during the holiday season, when having something as simple and necessary as food can make all the difference in their daily lives. Donate financially through PayPal online at www.AthensHumaneSociety.org or mail to The Food Bowl, 1781 Mars Hill Rd., Watkinsville, GA 30677. Drop off bags of unopened dog or cat food at our Spay & Neuter Center, Adoption Outreach Center, or one of our many partner drop-off points listed on our website.
