Extra Special Picassos Artwork to be Showcased
The art show, featuring works created by six young people with disabilities who range in age from 7 to 27, will be held at Athens Academy's Bertelsmann Gallery on Dec. 12-15, with a special reception on Dec. 11.
Extra Special Picassos, a group of six young artists with disabilities, will showcase their work at 's Bertelsmann Gallery next week.
“Our children and young adults are extraordinary,” said Extra Special People, Inc. , in a released statement. “Some of them have cognitive delays or serious physical disabilities, but they find beauty – and create beauty – in so many situations. We want to share their incredible talents with the community, and thanks to Athens Academy, we finally have a platform from which to do it.”
A $1,000 grant from the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism helped boost the art therapy program. ESP partnered with local business Pints & Paints for the paint-on-canvas lessons, and students created works from a range of other media at the ESP building in Watkinsville, according to the news release.
