2012 Athens-Clarke County March for Babies

The 2012 Athens-Clarke County March for Babies is scheduled for Saturday, April 21 and will begin at Clarke Central High School in Athens. Walkers will march a three-mile route through the campus of UGA and Five Points.

In a press release from the March of Dimes 2012 Walk Chair Melissa McDaniel of Madison County stated, "March for Babies is a celebration of everything our teams do all year long to benefit the March of Dimes and its mission for healthy babies. It is a lot of fun for a great cause."

Community members are encouraged to participate and may raise funds as individuals or part of a team. Teams may be formed at workplaces or other organizations. Contact the March of Dimes to create a team or register individually.

Included in the Athens-Clarke County event will be snacks and entertainment, contests and children's activities. Sponsors from the area include Noramco, Publix, Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary's Health Care System. Counties included are Athens-Clarke, Elbert, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe.

According to the press release, special guests will include the family of Kip and Angie Dominy of Statham whose son Hogan was diagnosed before birth with Trisomy 18. Hogan lived 16 days and his family cherishes and celebrates the fight to understand what occurred and stop it from happening again.

Registration will open at 9 a.m. on April 21 and the walk starts at 10 a.m. For interested companies, Bank Day will be held on April 19 at Regions Bank located at 3153 Atlanta Highway from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teams that raise $1,500 or more by April 19 will be given the opportunity to set up a team tent near the stage on the day of the walk.
