Weekend Planner: March for Babies, Earth Day Events and Sheep to Shawl

Here is our pick of activities going on in or around Oconee County this weekend.

 

Where/When: Saturday, April 21 beginning at Clarke Central High School

Why Go: To support the March of Dimes and its mission for healthy babies. Walkers will march a three-mile route through the campus of UGA and Five Points.

Pricing: Contact the March of Dimes to create a team or register individually.

Where/When: Saturday, April 21 in Bishop, Athens, Watkinsville from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: To tour five private gardens and support the non-profit Piedmont Gardeners, Inc.

Pricing: $15 in advance, $20 on the day of the tour.


Where/When: On Saturday, April 21, pick up trash bags and vests at 9 a.m. at the

Why Go: To participate in the Great Oconee County kick-off event by volunteering to pick up litter around different areas of the county.

Pricing: Free

 

Where/When: Lazy B Farm in Statham from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21

Why Go: To watch the sheep be sheered and see demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodturning, spinning, knitting, carding, beekeeping, and dog pulling. There will also be vendors with crafts and food.

Pricing: $2


Where/When: Sunday, April 22 from 3-6 p.m. at 2971 Monroe Highway

Why Go: To celebrate Earth Day learning about recycling and tree planting. The first 50 customers receive a FREE tree you can take home and plant. A portion of the day's sales benefit the North Oconee High School Go Green Club.

Pricing: Free admission
