Here is our pick of activities going on in or around Oconee County this weekend.

1.

Where/When: Rocket Field on School Street on Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: To watch the Thrillers, headed by Oconee County Commission Chair Melvin Davis, take on the Rockets, headed by Watkinsville Mayor Joe Walter, at this benefit for the Watkinsville City Cemetery sign.

Where/When: Georgia Museum of Art in Athens on Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: To see this special exhibition of the work of Lamar Dodd, the most recognized artist of his generation from the state of Georgia, that celebrates his career and juxtaposes his drawings with many related watercolors and paintings.

Pricing: Free; $3 suggested donation

Where/When: Town Park in Madison on Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Why Go: To attend Family Frolic Night on Friday and enjoy stilt walkers, face painting, music, storytelling, crafts and more and to listen to the Sensational Sounds of Motown at twilight on Saturday.

Pricing: Friday: $5 per person or $20 per family (up to 6 people); Saturday: Free

Where/When: on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: To learn dance routines choreographed specifically for National Dance Day at this family-friendly event.

Pricing: Free

5.

 Where/When:  on Saturday, with the gates opening at 5 p.m., the supporting act beginning at 6 p.m. and the lead act taking to the stage at 7 p.m.

Why Go: To hear the premiere Jimmy Buffet tribute band, the Sons of Sailors, and sing and dance to the music of Margaritaville’s favorite son with other parrotheads.

Pricing: $15 adults; $12 students; $5 children 6 to 12; free children under 6
