Here is our pick of activities going on in or around Oconee County this weekend.

Where/When: Downtown Watkinsville on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. 

Why Go: To celebrate the beginning of Independence Day weekend and hear the Classic City Band perform popular patriotic tunes.

Why Go: To have family fun as your K9 friends compete in various events at this Dixie Dock Dogs event.

Pricing: Free for onlookers; dog registration fees range from $20 to $35

Where/When: in Watkinsville. Gates open at 5 p.m., supporting artists play at 6 p.m. and the Athens King will take the stage at 7 p.m.

Why Go: To hear Chris Shupe, the Athens King, present his Fourth of July tribute to the King of rock and roll on the lawn at Ashford Manor.

Pricing: $15 adults; $12 students and military; $5 children ages 6 to 12; free for children under 6

Where/When: State Botanical Gardens of Georgia on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Why Go: To hear the talented musicians of the Classic City Band play lively popular, classical and patriotic music in a beautiful setting.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: Melting Point on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why Go: To hear a great line-up of performers, including the Packway Handle Band, Mountain Heart, Patterson Hood, Art Rosenbaum, Lera Lynn, Seven Handle Circus, The New Familiars, The Welfare Liners, Borderhop Trio and Yo Soybean.

Pricing: $17 in advance; $20 day of show; free for children under 12
