Here is our pick of activities going on in or around Oconee County this weekend.

1.

Where/When: UGA’s Spec Towns Track beginning on Thursday and running until Sunday’s last event at 5:35 p.m.

Why Go: To see some of the fastest and strongest track and field competitors in the world, many of whom are expected to head to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Pricing: Free on Thursday; $20 for Friday thru Sunday pass; $10 per day

Where/When: UGA’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginning on Friday at 10 a.m. and running until the last match on Sunday starts at 3 p.m.

Why Go: To see the best college men’s and women’s tennis teams in the NCAA Divisin 1 play on the courts at UGA.

Pricing: $5 per match for general public; $3 for students

Where/When: College Square in downtown Athens on Saturday from 10: a.m. to midnight and on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: To participate in this springtime festival that has been a political and cultural tradition in Athens for 33 years and features live entertainment and speakers covering a wealth of political topics.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: on Saturday at 6 p.m. for family activities and 7 p.m. for movie showtime.  

Why Go: To enjoy a comedy film for the entire family along with activities for all ages at one of Oconee County’s favorite events.

Where/When: on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: To enjoy a staycation and sample traditional Greek salads and desserts without leaving Oconee County.
